BIO

I live near the Southwest Florida coast, somewhere just below the Caloosahatchee River. I’ve worked as a journalist since 2007 — mainly covering South Florida — and as an event and portrait photographer in Florida and Los Angeles. I have experience in producing, writing, photographing and editing a wide variety of stories.

Born 1980. Grew up in Eastern Kansas. I was initially inspired by artworks of the mid to late 20th Century (writers, photographers, painters, musicians, architecture, etc.) and visits to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Mo.

Education: Florida Gulf Coast University bachelor’s in English and Los Angeles Center of Photography professional certificate program.

Awards: about 30 Florida Press Association mentions for feature writing (15 first-place), including a Claudia Ross Memorial investigative reporting award for a rather detailed look at the end of Greyhound racing in Florida. In 2017, I received The Naples Press Club’s Young Print Journalist of the Year award for stories that included a community profile of Harlem, Fla.
